Pearson helps students to understand four basic types of science: life science, earth science, physical
science, and space/technology. The
specific units of study increase in difficulty over time and reflect students
abilities as they grow and develop.
graders learn about habitats, life cycles, weather, matter, and day/night.
graders study plants/seeds, animal adaptations, food webs, rocks and soil,
seasons, fossils/dinosaurs, states of matter, light and heat, and magnets.
graders learn about ecosystems, water, minerals, layers of the earth, natural
resources, physical and chemical changes, forces, sound, and the solar
graders study the classification of plants and animals, the human body,
hurricanes/tornadoes, weathering/erosion, electricity, and simple
graders learn about the properties of matter, forces in motion, different types
of energy, circuits, stars and galaxies, and technology in everyday life.
graders study cells, reproduction and genetics, structure and function in human
systems, plate tectonics, properties in matter, thermal energy, earth’s role in
the solar system, and the impact of technology in society.
graders focus on life science, diving deeper into: hypotheses and experiments and safety in the
laboratory, cell theory and processes, bacteria, fungi, the animal kingdom, and
graders focus on earth science: rocks, minerals, plate tectonics, earthquakes,
volcanoes, weathering and erosion, water, the earth, moon, and sun, the solar
system, and stars, galaxies, and the universe.
Our middle school students participate in a science fair every year.
